How to select a gearbox? this is a common question to the mechanical design engineers, SDT Transmission ready some valued information to our customers such as how to select gearbox and motor for conveyor? you can download our industrial gearbox catalogue: <how to select gearbox and motor pdf>, you also can find the gearbox size chart from our website.

if you need a gearbox size chart pdf or want to know gearbox size calculation please contact us.

Here show different industrial gearbox specifications for our customers reference:

1. Understand the application conditions of the gear reducer
The first step in selecting a geared motor is to check the required application requirements. these requirements include but are not limited to the following points:

General requirements:
1, Industrial gearbox installation type,
2, Gearbox size,
3, Cantilever and sideload,
4, Lubrication oil type.
5,Input power(HP or Kw),
6,Voltage(V),
7,Frequency (Hz),
8,Maximum current (ampere)
9,Control type.

Geared motor specifications:
<1>,Gearmotor Size,
<2>,Required gearmotor Weight,
<3>,Required noise level,
<4>,life expectancy
<5>,Maintenance level.

Geared motor performance:
<1>,Output speed.(r/min,RPM)
<2>,Output torque. (N.m)
<3>,Duty cycle. (Hours/day)
<4>,Horsepower. (HP, or Kw)
<5>,Starting and running torque (full load).

Operating environment:
<1>,Application
<2>,Ambient temperature,
<3>,Ingress protection (IP) rating.

2. Choose the right motor
Next, according to the application requirement list, compare the specifications of different types of motors, such as general-purpose, brushless DC, AC induction or permanent magnet geared motors. Because each speed reducer application has its own unique performance and requirements.

3. Understand the speed and torque requirements of the load to be driven
In order to ensure that the geared motor is suitable for the expected demand, it is necessary to know the output speed, starting and running torque. Choosing the right geared motor is a matter of matching the output speed (RPM / r/min) and torque with the application requirements. The output speed is determined by the requirements of the machine and should be known. In this way, the starting and running torque can be determined. When SDT Transmission customers choosing a pre-designed geared motor, we have done most of the heavy work to ensure the motor and gearbox work seamlessly.

After calculating the starting and running torque, use the torque, speed and efficiency performance curves of the SDT Transmission to find the motor that meets the requirements. Then review potential design constraints, including operating (full load) gearbox torque, input speed, gearbox strength, thermal characteristics, and duty cycle.

4. Test
Once the geared motor is selected, it is important to perform multiple tests to ensure that the motor performs well in a typical operating environment. If the motor becomes too hot, too noisy or stressed, please repeat the motor selection process or contact SDT Transmission.
